ON HAWERA TRACKS
(By Telegraph.)
PREPARATION TOR HOLIDAYS
(Special to "The Evening Post")
HAWEKA, This Day.
Hawera horses were not quite as successful as usual at the Feilding Spring Sleeting, only two wins, those of Silvermine and Hampden, and three placings coming this way. Mendip went wrong, and could not be started the second day. J. " Fryer has three invalids on his hands now, Oraz.one, Bright Glow, and Me_ndip, and will be deprived of their services for the holiday racing. O. Cos's two-year-old Hampden has not shown any particular superiority over jiis companions in his track efforts, being somewhat moody. However, he is a sturdy customer, and considerable improvement c/an be looked for. "Green Linnet is shaping nicely -on the tracks, and should be heard of in sprint races at Christmas time. W. Pine has been schooling Homewood over the jumpjs. This horse is showing improvement. On Thursday morning the plough was in good order, and several horses were galloped, the best performances being as follows: — Chief Link beat Silver Eule over four furlongs in 50M:sec. Isa took 52% sec over a similar journey, but was not chased out. Two maidens, Miss Sheft" and Bon Eve, galloped five furlongs, the former finishing in front in lmin ssec. Orby's Choice ran ovev the same course, without being bustled, in lmin Bscc. The Warden finished up his round by coming home his last three furlongs in 39sec. Gasnapper, who is a bad worker alone, went a. round, his last three furlongs occupying 41 sec. Double Bed appreciated the good going, and sprinted three furlongs in 38% see. 0. Cox is giving Reremoana plenty of road work, but he will soon be bringing him on to the track. Awaken, who had to be scratched at Feilding, on account of slight lameness, has apparently recovered and has resumed light exercise. • . C. Jackson has abandoned the hope of getting Gasfield right, and the brother.to Moorgas has been returned to his owner. Inah's youngster, Paparua., has_ recovered from his indisposition, and is again on the tracks, hitting out in good style. Paparua beat 0. Cox's Top Gallant filly on Thursday morning in a sprint over three furlongs on the grass in 39sec. J. Fryer's two-year-olds are also shaping well, but will hardly be ready for Christmas racing. The bulk of the Hawera horses are down to race at the New Plymouth Meeting. The two-year-old brother to Banjuke, and also Goldzohe, in W. Pine's- stable, are working attractively, and should help shortly to turn the tide of ill-luck that has attended the stable for some time.
