NAVAL EXERCISES

AIR FORCE CO-OPERATION

(By Telegraph.)

(Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, sth December. Very successful gunnery and torpedo exercises were carried out in the Hauraki Gulf during tho week by H.M.S. Dunedin, flagship of the New Zealand Division of the. Eoyal Navy. Great assistance was rendered by seaplanes from the New Zealand Air Force base at Hobsonville. The Dunedin left port on Monday morning, and was followed by the sloop H.M.S. Veronica, towing tho largo battle practice target. The E.N.V.B. training ship H.M.T. Wakakura went out to the practice ground on Tuesday morning with the small target in tow. The two seaplanes co-operating with tho navy proved extremely useful, and made the practice a complete success. Squadron-Leader Isitt and Flight-Lieu-tenant Wallingford were aboard the Fairey lII.F seaplane when she was towing tho aerial target. Live high explosive shells were used for this operation, and the target was towed on a very long span. In "spotting" for gunnery practices the seaplanes were fitted with a shortwave wireless set operated by a telegraphist loot by the Dunedin.
