MOUNT VICTORIA TUNNEL

(To the Editor.) Sir,—l would like to pen a few words in reply to Mr. Jourdain. Firstly, I would point out that with a load of thirty people the return from a trip to Miramar would be ten shillings (at his fourpenny fare). The cost (at Is 9d per bus mile) would be 10s 6d, or sixpence loss per trip. Are the ratepayers to foot this bill for the benefit of the people of Miramar? Secondly, a private company charges ninepence to carry passengers to Khandallah, which is not quite as far as Miramar is. Thirdly, the bus companies would have gone bankrupt but for the Reform Party's Bill. Fourthly, bus travel in New Zealand is a luxury, and at a time like the present we should endeavour to live within our means and to economise as much as possible. ■ Fifthly, let Mr. Jourdain read the opinions of such men as Mr. S. A. Maddochs 'and Sir Henry Maybury.—l am, etc., STUDENT.
