"LESS THAN MEN"

DRESS VOlt GIRL ATHLETES

■Women athletes will be allowed infuture to wear less than uien when competing in public,, writes a Londoner. At a meeting of the Women's Ama-; teu'r Athletic ! Association,' held at the. Polytechnic, Regent ; .street, under the chairmanship of the. president,. Lord Dccies, the following 'new'••nile ' was passed and; will; take the place of llu'le 50 in the present bpok: "Every competitor shall woar a loose 'tunic' or blouse, having fiecyes at least one inch long. ' Daf-lc1-short's shall be worn reaching at. last half -way down the thigh, .to J knee. .-. ;*A track suit or wrap must bo worn from the'dressing-room to the point of competition and between tho events./.... .. . .- Hitherto women, athletes in competition in England have been required, by rule "to wear,'tunics-'with- elbow sleeves and ; shorts . which" reach to within four inches-of the ground when the wearer is kneeling. A proposal that Eule 50.be amended so as to allow sleeveless running ] vests was withdrawn, and the new rule received an unanimous: vote, despite the';fact that -Lord.Decies was apparently'not in favour .of the proposal. :. . :' Interviewed, after the meeting, Lord Decies said that in his.opinion sleeveless tunics, and attenuated shorts for women were not in good taste. He did not like to see girls sitting and lying about the ground in running costume. He added that there was a great.lack of uniformity of dress among girl athletes,' and recalled his experiences at Prague during/the Women's World Games last month, where he saw teams of athletes from other countries in uniform attire. During the prolonged discussion on the matter Lord Decios produced and passed round for inspection a picture cut from a newspaper, depicting a girl wearing a sleeveless vest:and very short "shorts," and expressed the hope that girl athletes did not wish to copy that style. :. :
