BAND CONTEST PROSPECTS
It was reported at a meeting of the Wellington Band Contest .Committee last evening that the entries for the, 1931 Band Carnival to bo held in Wellington next February were very satisfactory, ami in the aggregate- made- a record for New Zealand. In addition. to tho thirty-five full bands competing in the A and E grades there were 31S entries for solos', 36 for quartets, and 17 trombone trios. For tho open New Zealand epmet championship there woro no fowor than 58 entries. The following additional officials were appointed:] Military judges, Colonel Bee-re to arrange; time-keeper, Mr. P. N. Denton; official accompanist, Mr. F. CroVther; hon. solicitor, Mr. J. D. Willis. Tho question of broadcasting of Tost selections and hymn contest came up I'or consideration, and it wa-s decided that a sub-committoe should confer with tha Broadcasting Company, with a.view t« this being done. .
