ROSES AND PANSIES

MIRAMAR'S FINE SHOW

The Miramar and Eastern Suburbs Horticultural Society's Summer Show, which was held in the Taia Hall, Kilbirnie, yesterday, was a distinct credit to members, and fully deserved the complimentary remarks made by the Deputy-Mayor (Mr. M. F. Luckie), who performed the opening ceremony. Mr. Luckie congratulated the society on its progress, which had necessitated the engagement of a larger hall than usual. He referred to the fine displays of roses and pansies, and mentioned the useful purpose_ which the garden competition was serving in beautifying Miramar. The champion rose, "Charles Lamplough," was exhibited by Mr. G. S. Nieoll (Karori). Thefe was a splendid showing of pansies and violas, in which the society is specialising, and an exhibit of cut flowers by Mr. A. By Crawford, the patron, was much admired. The prize-win-ners were as follow:— Roses.—J. J. Bell, 3 firsts, 3 seconds; R. M. Porteous, 2 firsts; G. S. Nicoll, 1 first; G. T. Jeftery, 2 seconds. Novice classes^ T. Lane and Mrs. L. In the evening a display of dancing was grven by Miss Kathleen Harie's pupils, whose grace and skill were highly commended. _________________
