"Evening Post" Photo, POST OFFICE SQUARE TRAFFIC ARRANGEMENTS.— In place of the old shelter, which dates back to the days of the Te Aro railway station, a long, narrow raised island is being made in Post Office square to serve the double purpose of dividing the north and south traffic streams and as a waiting platform and safety zone for tram passengers. Up till now the council has declined to entertain such islands, but it may be that this Post Office square island will be followed by similar provision at the Taranahi-Wakefield street junction, where conditions are very bad indeed at present. Even more necessary is a safely island at the junction of Mercer, Victoria, and Wakefield streets, opposite the Public Library.
