Up till now the council has declined to entertain such islands, but it may be that this Post Office square island tuill be followed by similar provision at the Taranahi-Wakefield street junction, ivhere conditions are very bad indeed at present. Even more necessary is a safely island at the junction of Mercer, Victoria, and Wakcfield streets, opposite the Public Library.
