CHINESE BANDITS
CAPTURE TWO WOMEN
CLOTHING STRIPPED OFF
(Received Ist December, 1 p.m.) SHANGHAI, 30th November. Mrs. H. D. Hayward, an American, and Miss Eg'omersnl, a British nurse, left Vim Station, Lanchow, at the end; of October for Pekin. Mrs. Hayward,! who was critically ill, was seeking a surgical operation. Last week, when twenty miles from .Patoa-Chen, and while travelling ou rafts, bandits captured and robbed the women and stripped them of their clothing. The women are still in captivity. The weather is freezing. Other ( missionaries are attempting a rescue. A relief party leaves Pekin to-morrow seeking the captive ladies. The party is composed of Messrs. Findlay and Andrews, famine workers, Lieutenant Kanaga, of the United States Navy, and Captain Staples, of the British Navy.
