AND SOMEWHAT WARMER

As if trying to make amends for its unseasonable behaviour during Sunday evening and night, the weather yesterday, locally at any rate, was on its very best behaviour, although temperatures were low for the time of year. Throughout yesterday pressure remained very low to tho eastward, and winds continued from the south-west. Over most of thbDominion, however, the weather was fair, although a few scattered showers were recorded. Winds yesterday were mainly light, and had this morning moderated still more, and about Cook Strait they had become variable. Although cool, temperatures were fortunately not severe, and this morning there was a tendency towards milder conditions. A depression of cyclonic form was located yesterday off tho south coast of New South Wales, but to-day it appears to bo filling up. A tropical cyclone was on Sunday afternoon located off the Tiji Islands, and this yesterday passed close to ,the Tongan group, where at 5 p.m. barometers were abnormally low, with a wind of hurricane force. Auckland had showery weather yesterday, with a squally south-west wind, but the night was fine. Wellington fared best of tho four main centres. It was gloriously sunny, although the wind was a cool southerly. Christchurch had a fine day, but an increase of cloud at night staved off a threatened frost. In Dunedin a'south-west wind brought changeable , and showery weather.. Light to moderate south-west winds are forecasted, to veer gradually to the west and north-west. The weather for tho most part' Should bo fair with rising temperatures, although in western districts scattered showers may develop.
