HOOVER TAKES ACTION

SUPPRESSING GANGSTERS

ADDITIONAL AUTHORITY SOUGHT

NEW YORK, 22nd November. The "New York World's" Washington correspondent states that President Hoover will ask Congress for additional authority, to deal with the gangster situation throughout thß United States. Besides prosecution for failure to pay income taxes, a nation-wide campaign against so-called racketeers who blackmail legitimate businesses to the extent of many millions of dollars has been launched. Congressmen who recently returned from their districts found constituents alarmed'over the boldness of gangsters, and want the Federal Government to go* as! far as it can in a war against them.
