TAXI-DRIVER REMANDED
SYDNEY,' 23rd. November. Victor Hoare, a taxi-driver, has been! remanded to Ist December on. a charga of complicity in the Alexandria bank hold-up. Bail has been refused.
Just before midday on Friday, Henry Hodgkiuson, a teller in the Alexandria branch office of the English, Scottish, and Australian Bank, was^ shot in the faco by an intruder, who attempted a hold-up. The teller returned the fire with his revolver, and mortally wounded his assailant, who was helped to a taxi-cab by two companions, and driven, away. Later his body was thrown out of the car. The taxi-cab driver informed the police that he was quite ignorant of the attempt to hold up the bank. Three men engaged him without disclosing their mission. He heard shots at the bank, when the three men rushed into his cab, and told him to "drive like hell." Later, when the driver saw the police were overtaking him, ha stopped the car, making the excuse to the men inside that his petrol was exhausted.
