A SEARCHER FOR WORK
Found sleeping in a shed early this morning, William George Ritchie, aged 93 appeared before Mr. T. B. M'Neil, ■SJI, in the Magistrate's Court to-day, charged with being found unlawfully in the shed, the property of the City Council. '■Before the accused is asked to plead I would like to explain the circumstances," said Sub-Inspector Lopdell. Ritchie, he said, had a good record, nothing being known, about him. Some time ago he had come down from Auckland looking for work, as he had been out of employment for a considerable time. He had been unable to find any work in Wei* lin"tou, although he appeared to have been looking for work, and he had been sleeping in this shed. The Magistrate: "What do you suggest I should do?" \ Sub-Inspector Lopdell: "I£ your Worship would. remand him ior a week ho mi"ht perhaps be able to find something in the meantime, and the charge could then bo withdrawn. Ho ■can take a room, as he received a little assistance from his mother on Saturday." The Magistrate adopted this course, telling the accused that he was to notify the police if he found a job.
