CLAY BIRD SHOOTING

Ou Saturday afternoon, on the-clubs grounds at Taita, the members of the 1-lutt Valley Gun Club competed for the Tisdall Cup, and for a trophy presented by Dr. L. D. Cohen. Although the high northerly wind tended to make the conditions difficult for the competitors, the shooting during the-afternoon reached a very high standard. The outstanding ieaturc of tie afternoon's shooting was the excellent performances in the Skeet competition of Messrs. H. Smith and A. -Scott. Both competitors shared the honour ot establishing a New Zealand record for a round of Skcet. Smith: established the record in the first round, when he broke 13 birds out of a possible 16, and_ fcscott equalled it by breaking 13 birds in the second round. ' '■ ■ • ■ The match for the Tisdall Cup _ was closely contested, and three competitors, Dr. Alison, H. Dennison, and S. Tisdall, all finished equal with 14 birds out of a possible 15. The shoot-off resulted, in ADennison winning on the sixth extra^ bird, Dr. Anson finished secondhand S. lisdall The match for Dr. L. D. Cohen's trophy consisted of two rounds of Skeet. The winner, H. Smith, followed up his first' round of 13 birds with 12 birds in the second round. Lieut. Commander M. 11. Breraner, R.N., in his first appearance in a Skeet match, broke 22 birds and filled second place. A. Scott was third with 21 birds to his credit. Considering the fact that this form of shooting is new nnd novel to the members, Saturday's shooting was oE a very high order.
