ALLEGED WIRE-PULLING
POLITICS AND EDUCATION
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
HAMILTON, 22nd September
Strong condemnation of the Minister 's inference that a Government grant for a new boys' hostel might bo devoted to another purpose, was voiced by Mr. A. L. Tompkins at the annual reunion dinner of the Hamilton High School Old Boys' Association to-day.
"The position is -scandalous, and savours of a repudiation of contracts by the Government," he said. "It is unworthy of the Minister to put us in a position of still having to seek a favour," added Mr. Tompkins. "In fact, it is high time an indignant protest was registered against this dillydally policy on the part of politicians. We cannot but think that we are being made victims of political wire-pulling, which shonld not exist in any; system of ednefttkm."
