TRAVEL BY AIR

LESSENING THE NOISE!

British Official Wireless.

RUGBY, 21st Soptember

A careful investigation of.the methods whereby air travel can be made legs noisy is being undertaken by tho Aeronautical Research Committee.

The committee is of opinion that this will have to come largely from the lessening of the source of noise—by re-dn-etion of- the air screw tip speed, by the silencing of the exhaust, and by the silencing of engine noises due to tappet rods, etc. Some improvement is also possible by constructing cabins with inner and outer shells,.packed between with a woolly fireproof insulator. This type of wall construction is being used in British civil air liners.
