GYMM)EE WINS j
THE -AVONDALE GUINEAS
(By Telouraph.) (Special to "The Eveninij Post.") AUCKLAND, 22nd September
' Four defection left eight runnel's in the .'■ivondafe Guincab to-day, aud Cylin- •" der was backed dou n to. odds on, although ' 'lie was' at a slightly better price than might otherwise have- beou the case, on
account, of the extremely heavy going. Cylinder hopped out fust, but was soon headed bj Biddy's Boy, Waunuri, and Rosshire, Biddy's J3oy carrying on the running into the straight from Cylinder, Subeditor, Prptomint, and Royal Ruler. Less than a furlong from the post Biddys Boy looked as if he might hold off Cylinder, but the favourite would not be denfed, and got up at the finish to win *by a ueck. Lineage was five lengths away third, and Protomint fourth, the others being badly beaten. - The state of the track affected Cylinder, and on firm ground he would no doubt have won easily. Biddy's Boy's running demonstrated that he is much better than the average maiden, and he should not have to wait long now for a winning turn.
