SUBURBS RIFLE CLUB

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR.

A successful twelve months was recorded at the annual meeting of >he Wellington Suburbs Defence Rifle Club, held last evening. .Mr. W. G. Fellingham presided.

The annual report showed an increase in subscriptions, and a small credit balance, but expressed the need for more active shooting members if the good work of the club was to be continued. The club was indebted to several prominent citizens for donations and trophies. The competition winners were: Club championship, H.K. Hunt, 771 points; runnerup, S. F. M'Lean, 760 points; "Daily Mail" trophy, T. Goodall, 171 points; Pellingham Memorial Cup, A. Pringle, 91 points; Luke Cup, S. J. White, 91 points; series 1 to 4, h. Fellingham, H. K. Hunt. S. D. Neilson, and A. Sherbrooke, respectively; most improved shot, L. J. Drake.

The report, and balance-sheet were adopted. It was remarked that it was a long time since the club had started_ ou a new year in such a favourable position. Iv addition to the credit . balance there, was a fair amount of ammunition in hand, and there were .no liabilities.

The chairman said the club was formed in 1910. It had been in the position to challenge any club in New Zealand with 30 men aside, and there had been keen contest for the first ten places. Under new arrangements members who qualified would receive 250 rounds and marksmen 300 rounds of ammunition, while Territorials who were not doing training and joined as members of rifle clubs would receive 300 rounds free on signing up. Rifles would be lent to them, for which the club would be responsible. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patrons, Sir John and Lady Luke; vico-patrons, the Mayor of the City, Mr. G. A. Troup and Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P.: president, Mr. S. F. M'Lean; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. W. E. Colley, R. M'Keen, M.P., L. A. Caldwell, W. H. Tisdall, E. J. Whitcomb, W. H. Hornig, 8. Odlin, C. C. Odlin, and Dr. N. Usher; deputy presidents, Messrs. W. 6. Fellingham and H. R. Hunt; hon. secretary, Mr. W. G. FelKnßhain; assistant secretary, Mrs. M'Lean; lion, treasurer, Mr. T. Goodnll; auditor, Mr. R. E. Hester; team selector, Mr. 11. K. Hunt; general committee, Messrs. S. J. White, 11. S. Taylor, 11. A. Stewart, R. Shreeve, J. Cheyne.
