YESTERDAY^ >AT HOME"
A most suceessftil function was held by the Early Settlers' and Historical Association of; Wellington (Inc.), yesterday afternoon, to celebrate Dominion Day, in the Dominion Farmers' Institute Conference Hall, The hall was tastefully dee.orated with native flowers by Mesdames Carter and M'Gowan and Miss Gyles.. The flowers were collected in Mungaroa and Akatarawa. Posies were supplied by Mesdames Carter, M'Gowan, and Mrs. Colo to all the older members. His Excollency and. Lady Bledisloe were, reeeieed. by the president (Professor F. P. Wilson), vice-presidents (Mesdanies Garter anil M'Gowan, and Mr. Mark Maxton), and the secretary (Mr. W. Toomath)', and were attended,by.Lieutenant Elworthy, E.N., A.D.C. Professor Wilson introduced the Vice-Eegal party in a felicitous speech, and His Excellency replied in happy vein. ...Her Excellency was delighted with the bpnquet of native flowers presented to her by Mrs. Carter, and was not satisfied until she ascertained all the names for His Excellency's "little book." The musical programme was submitted by Mrs. Evatt, Miss Phyllis Martin, Mr. Wilbur Davies, and was much enjoyed. Mrs. Brown acted as accompanist. Afternoon tea was served. Farmer Daysh sang "The Grand Old Flag," and Miss Seymour recited. "Auld Lang Syne" concluded a successful afternoon. Special chairs, cushions, and carpet were supplied by Messrs. Scoiillar Co., Ltd., for the "old folk," and proceedings were broadcasted by 2YA. i
Amongst those present were Mrs. Cornford (1841), Mesdames Eagle, Wilton, S. B. Wright, Woolcott, Tandy, IJ. Smith, Marmont, Lloyd, Knight, Moxham, Sangster, Moore, Morris, Eoskruge, Duncan, Baine, Barnard, Msher, Mayo, Harley, Knell, Cole, Thirkell, Knott, Elliot, Evatt, E. J. Brown, Saneto, Kenai, and Toomath; Misses Allen, Eandall, Martin, Andrews, Donald; and Messrs. M'Gowan, Maxton, M'Kay, Pain, Judd (1840), Tandy, Daysh, Sinclair, Bead, Burns, Bock, Coulter, Eagle, Harley, Fisher, Milligan, Leigh Hunt, Toomath, and many others. Apologies were received from Mr. and Mrs. Stevenson, SargoantMajor Bezav, Mesdames Carman, Hill, and Player.
