TRENTHAM NOTES
HORSES FOR HASTINGS
SEVERAL HURDLERS M^KEs &
DEBUT AT OTAKI
The tracks ."at Trentham :wer.ff'; in better order for galloping this.-; morning than' they, have been..for.' '/some weeks, and most trainers took- advantage of tho chance to give .their'charges short fast sprints. Some of the work was done on the trial grass, but.most of it was on the sand. ..;';/< •.'• ' .
The only Trentham horses who aro:to; go to Hastings: for the Hawked Bay Meeting on Saturday ■ aro"/a teani .fi-oni L. Daly's stable. The| uiemb-ers., are Hynanna,"Lady Pam,. Sir Liniqml, Cape' Gold, Sailing, and Movietone. ■-They will be-railed north'on: Thursday/aidwill remain at Hastings for.the~ Napier Park Meeting on. Saturday iwe.ek..... None of these horses ■•■■were', allotted fast trials this' morning. Hynanna.and: Lady Pani, arid-Sir-Limond and-'.'.Miss. Eansom were sent twice round on tho. sand, and brought home at, a' good three-quarter pace. The others were given steady work on the sand /over shorter distances. They will. all do their final gallops to-morrow morning. An interesting piece of work ..was that cxecutpd by Shona- over -.half a mile, with Half Acre' as a companion.. It was the first fast gallop she. had'had for more . than, two years, 'but.she. saw. it through satisfactorily..- " : -,Half ./Acre' drew right away from her .'over' the last two furlongs,' tut- she : had. stuck with him for the first half of. the. teat and pulled.up none the worse for.the effort, i. .'..'..- '.'-..;..*'.'.. ' '
Tourist was the only.horse to go over' the hurdles, and his display .was much better than on Saturday. Indeed, after running off at the pony hurdle, which is very open and puzzling for' a. green hurdler, ho took th-e three schooling fences in fine style without losing any pace on cither side. Tourist 13 engaged for a flat race on the fitst day at Otaki, but he has been entered .for the hurdle event on the second day.-
First Money, who has also been entered for the hurdle races at. Otaki, schooled over six fences yesterday morning and gave a good exhibition throughout. He has been jumping for some time at Trentham, but has yet to have his first race over the battens.
Panorama and Joic de Val were both given steady exercise in the centre of the course, but neither was jumped. H. L. Kingan has not made any engagements for them yet. ]&lm&/7o was worked on the sand. Burnt JTulc, i\ ho is entered for the hurdles at Otaki, lias not so far done any schooling at the course, but has been put over fences at his trainer's property. Historic and Lineage will probably remain in Auckland till after the Spring Meeting, but Panther and Type are to bo returned. Historic's mission will be ; the Mitehclson Cup, which he won last year with 61b IeBS than he has been allotted this year. He appears to have his full share of the weights, taking a line through Star Stranger, who was a nock away second last year at 51b worse terms, but nevertheless he should raco well as he is now approaching his best form. Mr. C. Boyle, owner of Conjurer 11., Basouli, and Rational IL, leaves for Australia on Thursday to witness .the racing at Bandwick, Caulfield, and Tlemington. His horses are engaged at the two last-named meetings..
