MODELS EXHIBITION
> AT NEWTOWN CHILDREN'S
LIBRARY
A few months ago the City Librarian, Mr. J. Norrio, introduced the idea of talks and lecturettea to school children at the juvenile room in tho Newtown Library. Various subjects have been doalt with, with eonsistont success, for youngsters are interested, or can bo interested, iii most live subjects, but none has had a greater appeal than the models exhibition and serios of explanatory talks arranged by the enthusiasts of the Model Engineering Club. The children's room has boon cleared of most of its regular furnituro, and has been fitted up with an excellent display of model engines, steam and gas, electrical apparatus, ships, from pirates to a. modern destroyer, bridges, clocks, and so on. The exhibition has been running for about a week, and will continue till Thursday evening. ltd success is very largely duo to tho willingness of membors of the Models Club to go along each evening and tell tho children how to set vfibout model buildings and to explain the works and workings generally.
The average!■';■/ attendance' has bean from, two to three; hundred children each evening, and though quite a;lot of them may think no more flf it after leaving the room there are.others' who will have ' been.-sufficiently/- interested to try something' of :tho ' kind thcinselves. The whole idea1 of -these;. locturettes is to catch the interest of some of the youngsters, and that that aim is attained has been shown after each talk by tho demand for,.books on the subjects discussed.
