TRAGIC SHOOTING TRIP
FATAL NIGHT IN OPEN (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMAKTJ, 21st September. Tragedy attended a pig-shooting expedition in the Blue Mountain country, near Geraldine, early on Sunday morning, when one of the hunters, George Constable, a married man with four children, lost his life. The party comprised George Constable and EdwaTd Johnston, of Hillton, and Thomas Watts, of Christchurch. They left Neutze's Gully, ten miles from Geraldine, early on Saturday morning for Blue Mountain. The party took a short cut when returning, and became hopelessly lost in fog and the darkness. Snow commenced to fall and the party decided to camp for the night. Between 9 and 10 o'clock Constable collapsed and expired at 5 o 'clock this morning. Johnston and Watts went for assistance. Watts injured his leg and Johnston proceeded alone, reaching thehome of Mr. Neutze at 7.45. This morning a message was sent to the police at Geraldine, and search parties were arranged. Meanwhile Watts reached Mr. Neutze's home. Constable's body was recovered later.
