PALMERSTON N., 20th Sept,

Manawhenua defeated Hawkes Bay by 4 points to 3, a potted goal to a penalty goal, securing their first win of the season and their first defeat of Hawkes Bay. The latter team played below tueir true form. Hawkes Bay had the advantage of the wind in the first spell, but, although often dangerous, never managed to finish oft' their movements, owing sometimes to sound defence on the part of the home team and sometimes to weakness in their own combination.
