OFFICIALS RESIST
CLERK SEVERELY INJURED
.MELBOURNE, 19th September.
In broad daylight, at the Brunswick branch of the Bank of New South "Wales to-day, armed men held up two officers, one of whom was hit on the head with, a piece of iron.
W., Brooks, bank teller, fired shots at the bandits, who escaped in. a taxi with £300.
The hold-up occurred . while the manager was at lunch. The robbers ordered Brooks and Martin to put up their hands, and then struck the latter on the head with a piece of piping, felling him. The money was gathered up by the robbers, who rushed away, followed by Brooks, who fired several shots, one of, which shattered the windscreen of the taxi, the driver of which apparently ' was unaware of the character of his passengers..
The driver was bundled off his seat to the road and his cab driven away by one of the thieves. The cab was abandoned in a side street and £.100 in notes was found on. the soat.
Martin had to have several stitches put in his head wound. ;
