AMERICAN INTERESTS IN QUEENSLAND.

The American Smelting and Refining Co., lias obtained a substantial interest in the Mining Trust, Ltd., thus providing capital for further development of Mount Isa, Queensland. The American Smelting and Refining Company has agreed to place at the disposal o£ the Mining Trust for a minimum period of ten years the benefit of the experience, assistance, and advice of its large technical staff, highly trained in the management and administration of mining properties and smelting and refining plants. Production of the. American Smelting and Refining Company during the past year was nearly 1% million ounces of gold, 045,100 tons of lead, C19.39S tons of copper, 2»d 90,000,000 ounces of silver, or one-third of the world's total production of lead, copper, and silver respectively. This association will ensure the continuance of the policy of the Mining Trust, j mid will enable it to bring its various ' enterprises to fruition earlier than would | otherwise . have been possible. The fact that the American' company has. become a largo shareholder is stated to confirm the high value which the directors of the Mining Trust have placed on the properties under their control.
