MELBOUBNE, 18th September.

The final matches . for the amateur and professional golf championships of Australia were played to-day in perfect weather.

H. W. Hattereley, of New South Wales, by beating Alex Eussell, of Victoria, S and 1, became amateur champion. J. Eobertson,'of Tasmania, by defeating Bufus Stewart, of South Australia, 2 and lj carried off the professional title.

Hattersley, who won the first four holes in this afternoon's play, provided thrills by driving 280 and 282 yards at the twenty-fifth and twentyseventh holes. He was 2 up at the turn and also won the next hole. Russell, by slicing badly from the thirtyfifth tee, killed any chance he had. Hattersley sank a ten-footer to take the hole and win the match by 3 and 1.

In the professional contest, after being 3 down at the twenty-third in the afternoon, Eobertson with a twelvefoot putt was 1 down at the twentyeighth. Then playing excellently, he equalled, and went ahead for tho first time since the fourteenth hole. Stewart missed a two-foot putt at the thirty-fifth and Eoberston won the championship 2 and 1,
