THE WEATHER OUTLOOK

Although there has leen a further rise in pressure in the north, it is still low to the east of New Zealand, the cyclone having moved gradually southeastwards. By this morning, the barometer at the Chatham Islands had fallen to 29.45 in. Yesterday was somewhat unsettled over the North Island, with rather strong southerly winds and showers at scattered places; The weather, however, has gradually improved, and the winds have decreased, so that at 9 a.m. to-day Cape Maria Van Diemen was the only statioi reporting rain. The South Island has had better weather, the winds having teen only light to moderate and somewhat variable, but westerlies have ruled in the southern half, and, this 'morning, showery conditions were jrcvailing about Foveaux Strait Temperatures have continued to be on the cold side.

Auckland had a cold, unsettled day yesterday with a fresh south-west wind accompanied with showers, at times. At Wellington, a fresh south-easterly and cold, changeable conditiois prevailed with occasional rain, the total fall being 21 points. Christehurch experienced mostly dull weather, with temperatures milder in the morning and colder later, and there was a i slight frost last night; there was oaly a drizzlo of rain. Dunedin had cloudy weather with brief, sunny intervals.

The forccnst is for vnriablo winds south of Grcymouth and Kaikours, with westerlies prevailing in the far south; elsewhere, moderate southerlies.'' The weather' is likely to be fair to lino for the most part, but "with showers at times in. the northern and southern extremities of the Dominion, and at scutl:cn:il pianos in western districts.
