RUGBY FOOTBALL
TO-MORROW'S BIG GAME. Only two matches remain to be played at home by the Wellington representative Rugby team, and one of them, which is among the most important of the season's" engagements, will be the game against Wairarapa. to-morrow. In recent seasons Wairarapa have proved a stiff proposition to Wellington, and despite the-fact, that on this occasion Cooke will be playing against Wairarapa: instead of for them, the team which will be opposing Wellington to-morrow gives the. impression of being a strong combination. The forwards are a solid set, who are likely to trouble the Wellington pack, and there are a number of players of class in the. backs. After the close call against Hawkes Bay last Saturday, Wellington can bo expected to leave no stone unturned .to maintain the.season's unbeaten rer cord, and with Cooke again figuring ,ih the backline, should .-bo a more effective attacking force in which the pace Of the backs promises to be a big factor. The Wellington team was announced last iiight by the sole selector (Mr. J. N. Millard), and is as follows:— -.'.,' ~. , .
Full-back, -W..J. Barrett (Poneke); three-quarters, J. D. Mackay (University), !N. Ball (Hutt), D: J. Oliver (Wellington); five-eighths; A. E. Cooke (Hutt), J. R. Page (Wellington); half-back, H. J. Julian (Poneke); wing-forward, O. Price (Eastbourne); hookers, E. Jessup (Poneke), -E."Cdulstori -(Petone); lock, A. C. M'Pherson (Old. Boys) ;■ side of scrum, H. F. M'Lean (Wellington), E. Barry (Marist); back of scrum, R. E. Diederich (University), E. Fell (Petone). Emergencies.—Forwards, E. Reid (Petone), R. Berry (Athletic); backs, H. R. Pollock (Petone), E. Foley (Eastbourne), H. Cuming (Marist). M. F. Nicholls has not yet recovered from the throat trouble he contracted on the Southern tour, and C. G. Porter was not available. ' , The referee will be Mr. J. Scott, ot Wellington. There will be an early game between tlie Athletic fifth grade team and the Masterton fourths. The curtainrraiser ■is to commence at 1.30 and the big game at 3 o'clock. .
