"THE BUYERS' BUTTON"
HEADY FOR HOME GOODS
Many of those present at tho luncheon given by the Manufacturers' Association yesterday were interested in tho neat little button shown by a visitor. It is one of many thousands issued in Australia, and is worn by the people who are ready and willing to buy goocls of all kinds produced in tho country. The words "Buy Australian Goods'' circle round a tiny outlino map of the continent, and tho colouring is blue and white- with a touch of gold. Those are sold for a small sum. Replicas in large size were shown in the newspapers, as being worn by people who are genuine buyers of their own country's productions of all hinds. When wearers entered tho shops and stores the assistants know that they need not conceal the fact that the goocls they are showing are Australian or apologise for them m any way. The suggestion was"made" yesterday that similar buttons should .be. issued in New. Zealand. • • ■•-■■■■■. ' -
It was stated by a'■ speaker at the luncheon that ■■ if is a fact that women, in particular, refuse New Zealand-made goods if they' know theaii as such, though they buy tho same things readily enough if nothing is said. The speaker felt that till there was a different feeling among, purchasers, no .'good' woxild be done by specially marking, New, Zealand goods, though all tho .sellers would be only too glad... to. do, so if it were made possible. It is.-hoped ..that the button idea will bo carried out, as showing those who are willing to help their ' own country,' particularly: in. the way, of solving part of the pressing question of unemployment. . . ■
