LAWN TENNIS

CAME IN HUTT VALLEY

AFFILIATION PROPOSAL

Afiiliationwith the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association was one ofthe principal subjects discussed at the animal meeting of the Hutt-Valley L.T.A. on Monday evening. Mr. la. D. Smith, chairman of the Management Committee, who presided, asked delegates to see that all possible votes were recorded in order that a subassociation of the Wellington body might be formed. . A review of the association staled that an effort was made to form a Hutt Valley Association in 1923, but its1 career was short lived. The present association dates lrom 1025, when four clubs became members. Sixteen clubs are now affiliated to tho association. The annual report stated that financially last season was a very lean one, owing to the increase in fees payable to the Wellington Association; and this would have to be rectified for the coming season to allow a working margin. Success was assured in the holding of its status as a sub-association. of the Wellington L.T.A. An appeal is being made also for funds for more grounds in the Hutt Val-; ley. The inter-club competitions were successfully run by Mr. E. A. Usniar. Kegret was expressed that so few members had interested themselves in the association ladder. The balance-sheet showed capitation fees to the Wellington L.T.A. as £33 3s, and the assets over liabilities £37 Ms. Affiliation fees received amounted to £29 12s Cd and £11 15s were shown as outstanding. There is a cash balance in the Post Ollicc Savings Bank of £43 2s. A donation of £7 7s was made to the Wclliutgori Lawn Tennis Association's grandstand. In moving the adoption of the annual report, the chairman considered that the Management Committee had made definite progress upon* the question of the afliliation of the Hutt Valley Lawn Tennis Association as a .sub-association of the W.L.T.A. The constitution of the ■W.L.T.A. had now been altered to allow the formation, of a sub-association, but; it was necessary for the' clubs in the Valley to register a 60 per. cent, vote in favour of affiliation before it could become an accomplished feet. ' He appealed to delegates to back up the efforts of the Management Committee, and see that all votes were recorded. . ' Several grounds had been-inspected for new courts, he said, and a favourable one was procurable provided the , finances were forthcoming to put down courts. Several schemes were under way. The balance-sheet, the chairman continued, disclosed a fairly favourable posi- j tion, but the committee had been obliged to work upon the previous year's balance, as the affiliation fees collected from the I clubs during the season (one shilling per member) were all paid to the AV.L.T.A. ■ by agreement with that body. j The need for immediate action for the obtaining of now grounds was stressed by Mr. 11. G. House, Many clubs were labouring under considerable difficulty as far as the inter-club games were concerned. , j ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following were elected tho officers for the ensuing year:— . President, Sir Alexander Roberts; vicepresidents, Messrs. Walter Nash, M.P., IT. M. Jones, D. M'Konzie, V. Robertson, J. M. Power, W.
