STORMY CONDITIONS
'PLANES HAVE ROUGH TRIPS
•Wing-Commander Grant-Dalton, Di- . rector of Air Services, visited the Rongotai Aerodrome this morning to examine five pupils from .the Wellington Aero Club. The pupils were put through an oral test, but owing to the weather being unsuitable they were unable to do any flying. Mr. C- M. Duffy left Bongotai yesterday afternoon for Hawera in th« Moth machine flown from Christchurch to Wellington recently.'by Plight-Lieu* tenant Burrell. .It took Mr. Duffy over, two hours to reach Foxton, owing t« the stormy conditions. Realising thaij ho would be unable- to reach Hawera, he turned north and .-landed .at Tending, where he remained- for the night. This morning the weather was still bad, so Mr. Duffy flow the machine back to Wellington,' arriving here at 9.30 after a very rough trip. Prior to Mr. Duffy's departure yes« terday afternoon, • Wing-Cominande» Grant-Dalton. took the machine up at Rongotai. It was tho first time th« Wing-Commander had flown a machind on his own in Wellington. Captain Mercer, in a Canterbury1, Aero Club's machine, flew from' Wcl» lington to Blenheim this morning. Ho loft Kongotai at 10. o'clock. ■ Head winds wero Experienced, and tho trip, which usually takes about 40 minutes,' occupied' lhr. 50min. ■
