United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. WASHINGTON, 21st June. The Secretary of the Treasury, Mr. Andrew Mellon, praised tho new tarifi' law in a statement on Saturday. He said that it removed an obstacle to a business recovery by eliminating the uncertainty of tho last fifteen months. lie deprecated gloomy.prophecies, saying the notion that the law was going to destroy their foreign trade was certainly without foundation. "The United States will continue to buy a vast quantity of. foreign products and to sell the, products of its farms, mines, and factories all over the world,',1 >he added. Mr. Mellon warned foreign nations that to do business with the United States they would do well to remember that the all-important factor is the maintenance of, the high purchasing power and standard of living of the American people.
