NIGHT ON MOUNTAIN
RETURN TO DARJEELING '
(Received 23rd June, 11 a.m.) . : LONDON, 22nd June. In a message from the Jonsong base camp, dated 11th June, Smythe, relating his experiences in climbing Jon-1 song, said that-he spent the night on': the monntainside, camped below an ice- 1 wall, offering poor shelter from the | gale. When the climb began, sudden blasts brought a torrent of snow, and forced the climbers to crouch before the bitter fury. It became necessary to out ice steps, which at 20,000 feet is'most strenuous, requiring cessation to regain breath every few'minutes. . ■ Finally Smythe and Kurz reached almost-, tho summit., The expedition is departing for Darjecling. . All members are fit, but everyone has lost, a stone.
