AMATEUR ARTS SOCIETY.
The Amateur Arts Society, ~' formerly the New Zealand Amateur ,Arts and Literature Association; has already held twenty-six meetings this, year—the first one being held on 17th February. An original melody-making evening, conducted by Mr. E. Douglas Taylor, recently held,! was attended by about thirty members. The dancing section holds weekly ballets and lias arranged an original programme. At the home of Mr. F. H. Dawn, KaronY the literature section recently met for a discussion and criticism of "Amateur Ink," the first magazine of the society. At this meeting members were given, tea minutes to write a short story 'oil;- a. test subject, and taking int% consideration the limitation of lime, the quality and.length, of the stories were remarkable. One of the most humorous, meetings held by the pictorial art section was the recent caricature evening. Various members were caricatured, the artists being given a time limit for each caricature. .
