£32,000 LEGACY LOST

\ A former usher at tho Ministry of Public Instruction in Paris has lost a legacy of £32,000 through the forgetfulness of a notary to comply with a simple formality. Mme. Casetti had but one idea in her head—to obtain a decoration, says the Paris correspondent of the "Daily Chronicle." With this .object in view she called almost vveefcly at the Ministry, where M. Courtieu, the usher, sympathised regularly with her non-success. To his astonishment M. Courtieu found that the old lady on her death bed had made a will in his favour. Unfortunately for the usher, she had been too weak to sign it, merely making a few scratches with a pen. Even this would not have mattered if tho notary, who was present, had made a declaration that the testatrix was not in a condition to affix her signature. He omitted to do so. On the application of tho relatives of Mme. Casetti, the Court held the will to be invalid.
