Tho first annual meeting of the Municipal Employees Sick . Benefit and Death Levy Society was held-, last night, the president, Mr. T. H. Tankard, presenting a report which proved that success had attended the scheme. "From the balance-sheet," said the report, '' it will be seen that the amount of £973 5s 3d was contributed by members to the sick benefit fund and £300 15s paid out1 in benefits in the first two months. The control fund, received revenue from all sources amounting to £219' 16s 9d, and the expenses £173 16s lid, but the amount in future will bo confined almost entirely to contributions by members. The death levy fund, which shows a credit of £114 7s 9d, is the amount of one levy contributed on- account of the death of the late Alexander Thompson, and at 31st December no payments had been made on this account. "By carefully conserving tho funds of the society the control committee was enabled & lodge £500 in the Post Office Savings Bank, and the total credit balance of- the society as at 31st December was £1058 12s 4d. The contributions to the various funds, including the subsidy", from 'the City Council, amount to approximately £60 a week, so it will readily be seen that most careful'attention'must be paid to conserving the funds so as to enable the executive to provide against an epidemic or any other unforeseen circumstances." ; The report and balance-sheet as presented were adopted. ■ The election of officers resulted, as follows:—President, Mr. T.
