At the last meeting of the Otago United Temperance Reform Council; the following resolutions were unanimously adopted:-- . • ' v : ' (1) "That this council views with apprehension the! large increase in motor accidents caused by drivers under the influence of drink. As the growing cost and loss to the community in this matter is becoming, alarming, tho Otago Council therefore asks tho Government for legislation which will provide for stricter supervision, and the infliction of much;more severe penalties upon offenders."; ;,. , •(2) "That theicouncil deeply deprecates the light ponalties and non-en-dorsement of licences when publicans and others are convicted of breaches of the Licensing Act, and further urges upon tho Government to have tho Acts more rigidly enforced throughout the Dominion." .^_
