FLOWER GARDEN. The planting of spring flowering bulbs may still be done. Anemones, Tanunculus, ixias, sparaxis, tritonias, babianas, irises, tulips, freesias, and narcissi' are alll suitable for present planting. Sweet peas.sown during the last few weeks are through the soil, and will require protection from small birds and slugs. '• ' ' ■ Black cottons stretched along the rows will keep off the birds, while frequent dusting with lime and soot will protect the young plants from insect pests. . • _ Any summer flowering annuals which have "completed their flowering should be removed and the soil bo well dug and limed. . ; Pansies and violas may be divided and.planted out. The yoiing growths from the'base of the plants with some new roots attached make the best plants. • . The ground for pansies and violas requires to be well manured. VEGETABLE GARDEN. Harvest pumpkins, melons, marrows, etc., as soon as ' ready, and store in a cool, dry place. Mulch-winter rhubarb and dig over the ground round the plants. Any potato crops' not already dug should be lifted at once. •Make a sowing .of broad beans. Allow at least 6in between the seeds. All ground should be cleared of spent crops, and. anything.showing', signs of mildew-or other disease bo burnt. Dig.over the ground roughly, if not required for immediate use, and give a good dose of, lime. Thjs is the best season of the year for liming. Atterid to the thinning of all earlysown crops and suppress all weeds. *
