DUTY ON BEER
REDUCTION MOVED
HOUSE REJECTS AMENDMENT
United Press Association—By Electric Ttltv craph—Copyright. (Received Ist May, 3 p.m.) LONDON, 30th April. In tho House of Commons, Sir W. A, Wayland (C.) moved to reduce the new duty on beer from 3s to 2s 6d a barrel. He said that while every other war tax had been reduced the beer tax had! been doubled. • The amendment was defeated by 243 votes to 112. Sir W. A. Wayland then moved to grant a rebate of 2s a barrel on beer brewed purely from local malt and hops. This was also defeated by. 275 votes to 145.
