CANADIAN SENATE SPEAKER

VANCOUVER, 29th April. Senator Hewitt Bostoek, Speaker of the Canadian Senate, died at his home, Monte Creek, British Columbia. He was born in England 66 years ago.

The Hon. Hewitt Bostoek was born in Surrey. He was called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1888, but never practised. He travelled -for nearly two years on the American Continent^ in Australia, New Zealand, China, and Japan, and settled in British Columbia in 1893. He was elected to the Canadian House of Commons in 1800, and called to the Senate in 1902, becoming Speaker in 1922. He established "The Province" newspaper, and also engaged in ranching.
