"FINANCIAL PINCHES"
FEELING IN THE SOUTH
MATTERS MORE STABILISED
Conversing with a "Post" reporter to-day, the Minister of Internal Afj fairs (the Hon. P. A. do "la Perrello), wlio has just returned from an extensive visit in the South, 'said he had been delighted to find that in all directions matters were more stabilised. What had pleased him a great deal was that, for this time of the year, the tillers of tho land were working more intensively than ever before, and that the whole province was showing great benefit. "Like the North—and, for that matter, other countries," said tho Minister, "the South has felt financial pinches, but to-day things are different. Hard, solid work must produce good results, and wherever I have travelled I have found that spirit well to tho fore. State aid has been an important factor in the continued development of the Dominion, and the fact that the Government had been able to show a surplus of £150,000 has eased conditions very much. Great encouragement is given by the Government to those who work ' and produce the goods. All counties are striving to got back to their previous prosperity, and I must say that New Zealand is well in the running.'.'
