A WORLD SEARCH

FILMS AND FEATURES

FOR 'AUSTRALIAN THEATRES

'Included in the arrivals this morning by the Tahiti were Mr. Edwin Geach, managing director of Union Theatres, Australia. He is accompanied by Mrs. Gcacli, and they will remain in town a ■few days before entering upon the next stage of their world tour. Mr. and Mrs. Geach, who are accompanied by Miss M. Geach, will eventually proceed to Auckland, and sail by the Aorangi for Honolulu, en route for Los Angeles. Mr. Geach, well known in Sydney theatrical' circles, will visit the nlm producing centres in England, .tho Continent, and the United States, with a view to ascertaining the conditions governing the film supplies for tho coming year. An organisation such as Union Theatres, Ltd., which controls theatres in every capital city in Australia, finds it essential to ensure a continuous supply of film attractions for many months ahead. In addition it is Mr. Coach's definito intention to scour tho world for vaudeville and stage acts and theatrical stars, and secure the services of tho best for use in the magnificent stage presentations featured, in such splendid entertainment palaces as the State in Melbourne and Sydney, and the atmospheric Capitol inutile latter city.

Regarding the future of talking pictures, and their relation to tho legitimate stage, Mr. Geach expressed the opinion that the next few years would see changes, in tho speaking screen, as revolutionary as the past threo years have brought. As far as the legitimate stage is concerned, .Mr. Geach is convinced that, although the greater scopo offered by the screen will bring about a very high'level of entertainment, the stage will always have a position in the entertainment world, but the time will come when only productions such as "Journey's End," which, may bo produced i as. well oh the stage as the screen, will be offered the public.
