WELLINGTON TOURNAMENT

Waturday was so far the best day for the Wellington croquet tournament at Lower Uutt. Delightful sun and an absence of wind made the. day very pleasant for all concerned, and there was, a big attendance. .A gooduumber of jsuues were completed and the finals of two events got off.

hv the liual of the championship doubles, in which there were only seven pairs entered, Mesdames Lowery and .Bock defeated Mesdames Johnson and Smith 2(3-0. Mrs. Lovvory mado a pretty break of nine, but the rest of the play was of the in and out style and showed more caution than prowess. The final of tjie handicap doubles, between Mosdames Caklow and Howatsou and Mrs. Harper and Mr. Booeock, also had only one,very brigjit spot when Mrs. Caldow mado a break of ten and she then waited on rover hoop just on two hours before she'and her partner pegged out, winning 2(3-18. Mrs. Taylor .scored a good break of eleven in her match with Mrs. Heenan (0) iii her handicap game croquet. In the semi-h'ual of the club pairs Alesdames Caldow and Henderson (Wellington), playing against Mesdames Veiteh and Miller (Central), repeated '■ their performance, of the previous day's (club pairs) game. ■'Mrs. Henderson made a break of ten, and Mrs. Caldow one of nine, so that the opponents had little chance of scoring. Mrs. Heenan (6) in her handicap game with Mrs. Booeock (2) made a nice bieak of seven, and ran out a winner, 26-19. Mrs. Gilbert played a splendid game against Mrs. Kelly in the handicap singles and scored a break to rover hoop. ' Playing against Mrs. Pollock in the ladies' championship, Mrs. Walker made breaks or! nine and seven and the game was soon over.

Championship; Doubles (final). —Mesdames tipwory and Bock beat Mesdames Johnson and Smith, 26-5.

Handicap Doubles (linal).—-Mes-dames Caldow and Howatson (11) beat Mrs. Harper and Mr. Boocock (10), 2C-18.

Handicap Singles; first section, second round.—Mrs. Henderson beat Mrs. Jackson, 2G-14; Mrs. Mouat beat Mts. Pollock, 2G-19; Mrs. Waters "beat Mrs. Loweiy, 26-16;, Mrs. Gilbert beat Mrs, Kelly, 26-16. .Second section,/ second round: Mrs. Passmbre beat Mrs. Collier, 26-13/ Third round: Mrs. Passmore beat Mrs. Eudkin, 26-23.

Ladies' Lovcl Singles; second round. —Mrs. Pollock beat Mrs. Waters, 26-15; Mrs. Jackson beat Mrs. Andrews, 26-10; Mrs. Eudkin beat Mrs. Taylor, 26-17.

Ladies' Championship.—Mrs. Walker beat Mrs. Pollock, 26-6.
