AMATEUR ARTS EVENING

An interesting evening was spent by members of the New .Zealand Amateur Arts, and Literature Association recently, when screen tests made at Mr. F. H. Dawn's home in Karori were given. The pictures showed the arrival of the screen candidates, a few simple scenes, and a "close-up" view of the individuals. The pictures promise well for the future activities of this section of the association. The greater part of the evening was devoted to the following items by members:—Miss Madge Freeman, two songs; Miss Dorothy Esher, recitatious, "Corrymeela" and "The Little Waves of Breffney"; Miss Eflie Brice, recitation, "At the Dentist's"; Mips Eleanor Jewiss, violin solos, "Indian Lament" and "The Dream"; Miss Queenie HallM'Lean, recitation, '■Imminent Peril"; Miss Constance M'lnnes, songs, "Rosebud" and "The Fairy Tales of Ireland"; Miss Betty Knell, readings from her own poems, "The Pie Cart Man" and Shanus"; Miss Audrey Koberlson, sword dance; Miss Kathleen Anderson, 'song, 1 "Not Understood"; Mr. Eric Meier, violin solos, "Legende" and "Rondino"; and a trio, Mr. Russell Bond ('cello), Miss Irene Kussell (piano), and Miss Madeline Vyner (castanets), playing an original composition, "Bain-"
