FIRE IN LOWER HUTT

A residence in Hautana street. Lower Hutt, tenanted by Mr. H. H. Higgins, was partially destroyed by fire at about 2 a.m. ■ to-day. The house had been unoccupied since last Monday, when the tenants left on holiday. The fire, the cause of which is unknown, started in a bedroom and spread to the passage. Both bedroom and passage were badly damaged and their contents destroyed. The rest of the house and its contents were damaged by smoke and water. Details regarding tue insurance have not yet been ascertained.
