TO-DAY'S MATCHES
The weather is fine for the second day's matches, and the courts are in first-class-condition. As tho result of yesterday's'play, Wellington started the. second day with four wins out of the 6 matches that have been played. There are six matches to be played this afternoon, of which Wellington requires three to win the Shield.
The draw for this afternoon is as follows: Singles: C. Malfroy v. T. Rhodes-Williams A. E. Sandral v. T. W. Patterson; D. G.. France v. C. Angas; N. R. C. Wilson v. D. F. Glanville. Doubles: Wilson and Sandral v. Glanville and Patterson; France and Malfroy v. Angas and Rhodes-Williams.
Wellington strengthened their position by winning the first two games this afternoon. C. E. Malfroy beat T. Rhodes-Williams,■ 6-3,, 7-5, a match in which there was plenty of clean, hard hitting and bright tennis. A. E. Sandral beat T. W. Patterson, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. In the final set Patterson at one stage lead 4-2, and Sandral played a great uphill'game to take the set.
