The New Zealand bands contest, in. which 34 brass and pipe bands are engaged, commenced this' afternoon in perfect weather at Carisbrook. ground with C grade and Highland pipe bands quickstep contest. There are seven entries in the C grade, including Waimato and Papanui, which are outside Otago. Canterbury, Timaru, Dunedin, Balclutha, Wauganui, Wellington, Christchurch, and North Otago are in the p,ipe band section.
