MEETING OF PARENTS

A meeting of parents was hold I on Thursday evening at Wellington College to discuss the raising of-T -funds for ground improvement purposes. About- fifty parents wore present. The headmaster (Mr. W. A. Armour), who presided, stated' that after tho present building operations had beto.. completed tho grounds would require "considerable attention, and the work they had in view would necessitate the spending of a fairly large sum of money. He said that the Old Boys' Association had given; a good deal of assistance in tho past, land would be equally faithful to their old school- in ;'the future, but he hoped that the parents also would help to carry out tho improvements, in view. After a "short discussion it was de-cided-to hold a garden--party on 29th March, as :the .day previously arranged clashed with Old';Bpy3f Day, which, this year, will be held on' St. Patrick's Day, 17th March. It was also decided that the pupils shall give a physical training display during the afternoon. A cricket match, in which the college eleven will be playing one of the teams ;n the third grade Cricket Association's competition, is also to take place. Other amusements decided upon included ■ arcliery, tennis, golf putting, swimming ; .;croquet, and badminton, as well as it, number of stalls. In tho evening a cabaret dan.cc will be. held, and during the afternoon a band will play on "the lawns. It was decided to ask the Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup) to perform the opening ceremony. The following stallholders were appointed:—Sweets: Mesdames Dickie (convenor), Gillies, Kernahan, Sawyer, Rowo, and Ombler. Ice-cream: Mesdames Mitchell (convenor), Mack, Searle, and J. G. Smith: Soft drinks: Mesdames Lawn (convenor), Gordon, Misses Lawn and M'lvor. Work: Mesdames Macmillan (convenor), Stephenson, Etherington, Cromie, and Rooke. Cakes: Mesdames Blyth and Cable (joint convenors), M'Naught, Grainger, Hart, and Wood. Cabaret Supper Committee: Mesdames Alexander (convenor), Martin-Smith, Beard, Heron, Caughley, Forgie, Paetz, Furby, Morpeth, Dixon, and Cramond. Afternoon tea: Mesdames Armour (convenor), Redward, Balham, G. T. Watt,; L. Campbell, M'Neil, Waller, Austin, Leech, Glensor, Mayer, Eason, Edgar, Hammond, and M. H. Watt.
