The Mischievous Elf

O«ice there lived in Fairyland a most mischievous elf who could not mind His business., This happened when a fairy who was washing spied him taking all her clothes off the line and rubbing them in .the mud, making the clothes in a disgraceful state. The fairy, of course, could not put up with anything like this, so she went and related the story to Policeman Bumble Bee, who said that he would put an end to his foolish pranks. The policeman ambled along to the elf's home, which was the untidiest dwelling he had seen for a long time. He knocked at the grimy, rusty knocker, and the door was opened by a sly-eyed fairy who demanded to know what he wanted. ••■. "I want know where that elf is!" bawled the policeman savagely. "You will have to look for ever, because he is not home," growled the fairy. "Up to his pranks again?" said the policeman. He went on his way.and soon spied our sedate little elf, calmly pulling loadfuls of pepper down one of the fairies' chimneys, thus causing a great disturbance of sneezing Our policeman crept up to the sniggering elf, but as I said, before, the elf was very sly. Consequently he had seen the policeman coming, and had deliberately thrown a bag of pepper in his face, causing him to sneeze so violently that one of the fairies had to pat him on the back. As this was going on.the elf had made his departure very quickly, but there was a band of policemen Bumble Bees waiting round the coiner to grab him as he came pelting round. This happened, and our luckless rascal wastrapped at last, and marched off to the fairyland prison, with his grimy fairy. Thus disappeared two of Fairyland's greatest annoyers.
