WELLINGTON TOURNAMENT
Some excellent play was witnessed yesterday iii the games of the1 Wellington Croquet .Tournament now-in pi-ogress, at Lower Jlutt. Good'breaks would now seem to be the'rule rather, than the exception, and" in-, ouo semi-final of the club pairs the game was practically: finished in two breaks. Mesdamcs Caldow uiid.Henderson (Wellington) defeated Mesdames bmith and Pawson (Central),- 2U-2. Mrs. Henderson with her second turn went round to rover hoop, and Mrs. Caldow later got in at the.fourth-hoop, and went round, . peeled ■ Mrs., Henderson's : ,ball through rover: and laid a rush for the peg. Mrs. Smith got a ■wonderful long shot, but was only able to make two. hoops with it. and the winners were soon,on the peg., ~The. game took about forty-five minutes and the losers had five 6hots.between them. Mrs. Caldow again made. an allround break iv the semi-final of the-han-dicap doubles, when she and Mrs. Howatson defeated Mesdames Brice and Gilbert, 20-18. Mrs. Mouat played jwell against Mrs. Manton in the ladies' championship, when she made' a break; oi" eleven, and another good one with her partner's ball. After winning -that game 20-15,- she went down to Mrs. M'llroy in the next round 20-15. She opened well and scored another break of eleven, out Mrs. M'llroy was right on her game and quickly made a ■ break of nine and from then on -kept Mrs. Mouat well out of the play. Mesdames Caldow and . Howatson play Mrs. Harper and Mr.. Booeock in the final of the handicap doubles, and Mesduines Caldow and Henderson play Mesdamcs Kelly and Taylor in the final 'of the club pairs. The ■following, games were, completed after midday yesterday.
