LONDON, 19th "February

Lord Boaverbrook announces that the United Empire Party will now procoed ,to organise local branches and raise a fighting fund of £100,000 to whish public subscriptions are invited. A rtatement showing the subscriptions is being published in the Press. The expenditure in-ill be shown in audited accounts.

•-'i'his will be a now departure in British political life," ho adds. "Everything we do will be done ill the full light of day." ■

Mr. L. S. Amery,, Secretary to the Dominions in thc-Baldwin Government, addressing Derbyshire Conservatives, declared that ho rejoiced last summer when. Lord Beaverbrook commenced preaching the ideal of Empire free trade. Ho regretted tho decision to form the Uni.ted .Empire Party, because he feared that the energies of the Empire crusaders might be diverted to the machinery of party organisation, involving a struggle between candidates. The new movement could endanger the Conservatives if the public believed they were not sufficiently in earnest or did not intend forwarding the cause of Empire unity. A. remarkable statement is made by tho "Daily Herald's" political correspondent to the effect that tho life of the Empire Party will loe short. The opposition of the big newspaper group representing Conservatism /will bo bought off. >

"The amount of the price will be announced by Mr. Baldwin himself when he speaks on agricultural policy, as he has promised," says the "Herald's" correspondent, who adds that he has reason to believe that the Tory chiefs have agreed that Mr. Baldwin shall promise the farmers a measure of protection involving some food taxes.
